A health club is generally where people go to get in shape and stay healthy. Most health clubs offer a variety of classes, equipment and health-focused amenities such as massage and steam baths. Members assume their health club is focused on safety because it is focused on their health. That is not always the case, however.

In order to build a solid clientele, a health club needs to have the right combination of classes, instructors, equipment and marketing. One component that simply cannot be overlooked is safety. Members need to feel as if their safety is a health club’s number one priority. Here are a few ways to make any health club focused on safety:

First Aid Training

Each and every employee of the health club should be properly trained in the administration of first aid and CPR. A health club is an environment where a large percentage of members are beginning a workout regime hoping to improve their health. This means that they are currently not in the best of shape and that can spell trouble!

While some emergency situations strike without warning, such as cardiac arrest, others are brought on by stress and exertion. It is imperative that all heath club employees know the warning signs of heart-related problems and how to handle life-and-death situations.

It is also important that employees can handle non-life threatening situations. Many health club members simply find themselves with sprained joints, pulled muscles or other injuries. Health club staff should be prepared to handle these medical situations as they arise.

CPR Training and AED Training

When a person suffers cardiac arrest, their brain can only live 4-6 minutes without the help of properly administered CPR. CPR acts to manually pump blood through the body until medical intervention can begin. It is extremely important for the safety of all health club members that employees receive CPR training on a regular basis.

CPR is great, but for the safety of their members, many health club managers are installing Automated External Defibrillators (AED’s.) An AED provides an electrical shock to the body of a cardiac arrest victim to essentially jump-start the heart. Combined with CPR, this system can actually raise a cardiac arrest victim’s survival rate above 40%.

First Aid & AED Equipment Checks

Having employees trained in first aid and CPR goes a long way towards the safety of a health club. Installing an AED in the club is truly making a commitment to the safety of members. However, if first aid materials and the AED are not kept in proper working order, they may not be there when needed most.

Have a particular employee take on the responsibility for keeping the first aid box well stocked. Another employee can be responsible for checking the AED to ensure it is operating properly and carries a good charge. If a medical emergency was to arise and these items were not available as promised, members would suffer greatly.

Equipment Safety Checks

First aid and AED’s are not the only sets of equipment that need to be kept in working order to ensure member safety. The exercise equipment itself needs to be checked on a regular basis to make sure all parts are running smoothly. Literally hundreds of different people may use a piece of equipment at a health club in any given week. This increases the opportunity for a small part to break or be compromised in some way. By checking each piece of equipment on a regular basis, health club managers can definitely say they put their member’s safety first!

Exercise fitness is a wonderful way to start getting your body back into shape. It is also a way to reduce the amount of stress you have and feel better mentally. Studies show those who participant in exercise fitness are healthier, happier, and sleep better. Those all sound like wonderful reasons to get involved in an exercise fitness program right? Exercise fitness involves a combination of cardio and stretching exercises to improve your overall health. You can find out about various exercises online and in magazines. Both will even explain the results you can expect from the exercise and the proper way to do it.

The great thing about it is you get to choose the exercises you participate it. Choose from sports, swimming, bicycling, walking, aerobics, yoga, and many more. The possibilities are endless. The goal is to find a variety of activities that you enjoy doing and implement an exercise fitness plan with them. Make sure you consult with your doctor first before you start a new exercise fitness program. You need to make sure you are physically able to do the exercises you choose. It is also important that you know how to do them properly. Aerobics and weight lifting are both effective parts of exercise fitness, but they can do more damage than good for your body if you don’t do the activities correctly.

Regardless of your current activity level and fitness level, you can come up with an exercise fitness plan that will improve your health. Don’t expect it to be easy and don’t expect to see results overnight. Implement small changes and continue to add to them. If you enjoy walking then set a goal to walk 15 minutes each night. Increase your walking time by 5 minutes each night until you reach 30 minutes. Next try walking at a faster pace. Still walking 30 minutes each night, try to walk further in that amount of time.

For the best results have a variety of activities in your exercise fitness plan so you won’t get bored. This will also help you accommodate the weather. Have a variety of exercises you can participate in both indoors and outdoors. For some people going to the gym is a great motivator and the only way the will participate in exercise fitness. This is perfectly acceptable as long as you go to the gym faithfully and get some exercising time in.

In the United States, obesity is a huge problem affecting millions of individuals of all ages. It all stems from a sedentary lifestyle and not eating properly. The time is right to start an exercise fitness program for yourself. Take advantage of the opportunity you have now while you are still healthy enough. The choices you make today in regards to your exercise fitness program will determine your overall wellness and physical health in the future. With heart disease, diabetes, high blood pressure, and high cholesterol being the price most of us will pay for not getting fit, it seems like implementing an exercise fitness program is the safest choice available.

You would like to join a fitness club but there are so many choices! And then you will just end up having a headache! Fitness clubs are effective motivators. They should motivate us and not frustrate us. Before you choose on a fitness club, make sure that it suits your needs and goals. And before you do that, you should first learn and decide on what is your priority. By then, you will know what you really need in a fitness club. Here are some guidelines you can consider in choosing a fitness club that is best for you:

1. Where is it located?

The location is the first thing that you should consider when finding a fitness club. If the club is far from your home, you will just another excuse not to work out. It is best to find a facility that is near your home.

2. Are the employees friendly and nice? Will they be able to help you reach your goals?

Make sure that the instructor has the necessary experience to work with you. The instructor should be a certified professional that can work with you safely and effectively. Your instructor should also know if you have physical limitations or you may find an instructor that is well trained to work with you. You can also check the age of the instructor especially if it is one factor for your motivation and learning. The staff should also be helpful, friendly and professional. You can also ask the services they offer and find what is important for you. Some facilities have their own dietician and physical therapists that can offer services for you.

3. What kind of programs does it offer?

Find time to see what programs are there for you and check if they suit your interests. Do they offer group classes? Choose the facility that offers the classes you really like. You can do a trial class to check it out if you want.

4. Are the facilities and equipments good and will they be available anytime that is most convenient for you?

Check if the equipments are enough for all members. Otherwise, you will waste your time falling in line and waiting for your turn. Also make sure that the facility is open during the time you are most likely to do work outs and exercises.

5. Is the entire facility well maintained, clean and safe for you?

Machines and other training facilities should be in clean and in good order. If you see a lot of “out of order” signs, it could be something to think about. Modern equipments are safer and more comfortable to use, so you may also want to consider that. Are the floors cleaned regularly to avoid accidents? Is there enough room for everyone? Also check if the facility is located in a place away from danger, consider also if the location is well lit.

6. Are the members of the club friendly and can they be your friends?

The fitness club is also a venue for social interaction. Take time to drop by and meet the members of the club before you enroll. Other members can be your buddies in the near future and should be considered.

7. What is the schedule of classes and will they be convenient for you?

Find out what classes are offered at a specific time and consider if you will be available at the schedules given.

8. How much would it cost you?

It is important to know the monthly membership fee and what it covers. Some fitness clubs have hidden charges and you should be keen in checking that. Check if they have promotions or discounts and do they offer services at an extra fee. It is also important to know how long the club has been and how often they increase rates.

9. How is it different from other fitness clubs?

Don’t just stick into one fitness club. Try to visit as many facilities as you can and make a comparison. Then you can just narrow down your choices to the facilities that met your needs and priorities.

10. What do people say about it? Take your time to gather feedback from other members. Ask them what they can say about the club and let them tell you about the experiences with the facility.

Choosing a fitness club is just like shopping on the best shirt for you. Do not be pressured and do not try to contact them right away. You can take your time to review and gather enough information if you are still not sure which one to choose. Once you have made your choice, enjoy and make the most out of it.

If you’ve decided this is the year to get serious about your fitness congratulations are in order. Just making the decision is a great start. But between family, work, and other pressing engagements in an all too busy day when the heck will you ever get to the gym? Have you considered investing in one of the many fitness gyms for the home?

It’s really the answer. With just a little help from us we’ll show you how to find the perfect fitness equipment for your home. With so many fitness gyms on the market it can be a bit overwhelming trying to figure out which gym is the right one for you. Heck if you do it right you will choose equipment that your entire family could use. Of course if you have a medical condition always check with your doctor first before undergoing a new fitness program.

Just like different commercial fitness gyms have different equipment to offer their members different home gyms also have different equipment to offer. It’s a lot easier to stay on track with your fitness program if you know what it is you want out of your work out. You should also figure out what your current fitness level is.

You have treadmills, rowing machines, stationary bikes, cross country ski machines, free weights, and even multi machines to choose from. Home fitness gyms can be as simple or as complex as you want. The only other thing limiting you is your budget.

There’s nothing cheap about home fitness gyms. At least not the quality ones and you should never compromise poor quality for a cheap price. A treadmill is always a great buy if you have the room. You can vary your workout, increase the intensity, burn calories and get your cardio workout. Choose a belt driven model that has a safety shut off and that the treadmill itself is wide enough. Make sure you also know what the warranty is.

Home fitness gyms also do well with rowing machines and they offer an all over work out that has minimal impact on joints. Once you get the hang of the rowing machine it is an excellent piece of fitness equipment to have in your repertoire. Stationary bikes have been on the market for ages. The newer ones have a few more bells and whistles but at the end of the day they still do the same basic thing they did back then. Stationary bikes are a great start if you have had a sedentary lifestyle.

Home fitness gyms should always include a set of free weights. They are perfect for sculpting the body. They are affordable, easy to store, and a must for anyone that’s serious about their fitness program. You don’t burn a lot of calories with free rates but you do get some very nice definition by combining the two types of fitness training.

Knowing what it is you want makes it much easier to look at all the home fitness gyms on the market and then choose what’s best for you. You’re going to look great!

Gymnastics Fitness Programs for Kids

The YMCA is one place for kids to find many different fitness programs. When people think about fitness, they think about exercise such as running, jogging, and even swimming. What most people do not even consider is a fitness program like gymnastics. Gymnastics is very popular, and kids can start as early as six months old. Some people think that this type of fitness program is for girls only, but it is open for anyone. Some of the top athletes have had gymnastics as a kid or adult. It keeps the body limber and strong and promotes healthy bones.

Five Years and Younger Gymnastics

There are four groups to gymnastics when you are five years old and younger. There is a Parent n’ Tot program for six months to 2 years old, Tumble Tots for three year olds, Tumble Tricks for four year olds, and Tumble Twisters for five year olds. This type of fitness program for kids starts out when they are young, and can continue until adulthood if they really enjoy what they are doing.

As a child turns six months old, they can easily start learning the fundamentals of gymnastics. This early class is more about fun than it is anything else. As they grow and advance into the different classes, they start learning tumbling and other mat activities.

Girls and Boys Six Years or Older Gymnastics

There is a six year old or older class for girls and one for boys in most locations. This fitness program is for those that have had some prior gymnastics or who are just starting out. Kids in these groups start learning how to do more moves on the mats, and then on the balancing beams. These classes will keep going until the child enters into the invitation only programs if they have successfully accomplished their routines.

Boys and girls will be in different programs as they learn different moves on the beams, mats, and other gym equipment at this stage.

Invitation Only Gymnastics

The invitation only gymnastics are for kids that have excelled in prior years at gymnastics, and want to continue their learning for more serious competitions. These two groups are called the hotshots and the starbursts. By this time, the fitness program becomes more of a challenge with hours of work and dedication.

Many kids keep completing in gymnastics far into early adulthood or they move into dance in school. Both programs offer fitness and help keep the body healthy.

If your children need something healthy to do or they need some type of fitness programs to keep them active, gymnastics is just one of the programs they can participate in and maybe even enjoy into adulthood. It is a program that will keep them limber and it helps to build strong bones and muscles. During the fitness program, kids will need to eat properly and have a daily intake of protein and other healthy foods. Not only does the YMCA offer these programs, but also many cities have other fitness centers that can offer gymnastics for kids.

The YMCA has some weird rules. You can’t go to one within 50 miles of your local YMCA. Also some YMCA’s have a charge to use their club even if you belong to another YMCA.

My workout routine usually consists of running 1.5 miles and doing different types of weight training. I wanting to lose 10-12 pounds that I have put on after entering college, but this has been a very hard task for me thus far. So…I’m looking for a good fitness bar to eat after I workout to help me with my weight loss process. Thanks for any advice.

Askmen.com recommends Cliff bars. There are multiple varieties, including high-protein (although what you need most for recovery are carbs to restore muscle glycogen).

http://www.askmen.com/top_10/fitness_top_ten/34_fitness_list.html

Askmen.com also rates chocolate milk as the #1 recovery food, if taken soon after the conclusion of the workout.

As for me, I stick to a homemade shake with water and soy milk, protein powder, fruit, raw cocoa, brewer’s yeast, and flax meal.
